About the Greyhound of Richmond
The Greyhound of Richmond represents loyalty, courage and noble heritage. The heraldic beast has been associated with the House of Lancaster and later became an important symbol of the Tudor dynasty through Henry VII.
The reverse, designed by Jody Clark, depicts the Greyhound standing proudly behind a shield bearing the Royal Arms. The obverse features the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, making this one of the final Queen’s Beasts gold bullion releases issued during her reign.
Today, the Greyhound of Richmond remains one of the most popular designs in the Queen’s Beasts collection, appreciated for both its historical significance and striking artwork.
