The 2017 Britannia 1oz Gold Proof was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gold Britannia, first introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987.
For this anniversary year, The Royal Mint commissioned a new interpretation of Britannia from Louis Tamlyn, then a fine art student at Central Saint Martins.
Rather than simply reproducing the familiar standing Britannia associated with the bullion coin, Tamlyn created a distinctly contemporary interpretation for the 2017 Proof collection.
