The Coronation Sovereign of King Charles III
King Charles III was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023, marking the first British coronation of the twenty-first century.
For the Coronation Sovereign collection, The Royal Mint introduced the first official crowned coinage portrait of King Charles III, designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings. The portrait depicts His Majesty wearing the Tudor Crown.
The Royal Mint identifies this as the first Sovereign collection to feature the official crowned coinage portrait of King Charles III.
The reverse of all three coins features Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the Dragon, bringing together the special Coronation portrait with the historic design closely associated with the modern Sovereign.
1,250 Limited Edition Presentation – 1,226 Recorded Sales
The three-coin set had a Limited Edition Presentation of 1,250 sets, while The Royal Mint’s published sales figures record 1,226 sets sold.
These figures relate specifically to the three-coin presentation and should not be confused with the maximum mintages of the individual Sovereign denominations, which also appeared in other Royal Mint presentations.
